Marketing 101

When we tell people that we do marketing, a lot of people ask if we do TV commercials or maybe radio ads. While that is sometimes certainly part of our job, that part of marketing is actually considered advertising.

So, here is a little Marketing 101 for all of you out there.

Think of marketing as a big umbrella with many different things underneath. Things like research, branding, pricing, Google, social media and certainly advertising are all part of marketing. Advertising is just a way for a company (or brand) to spread the word about what they are up to.

It seems like a lot of people have trouble understanding exactly what marketing is and advertising is just such a tangible thing. It makes sense that people associate advertising with what all marketers do. Just remember that a lot of things go into marketing – the behind the scenes stuff like research, websites, and strategy to what you see on TV and hear on the radio. A little bit of science, a little bit of math and a little bit of art. That is marketing and we love it!
