Shopify: A Fantastic ECommerce Option for Small Businesses

If you’ve followed our blog for any length of time–or, heck, if you’ve had a casual conversation with one of us in the last several years–you probably know how much we love WordPress and how we extol its virtues to all of our clients wanting to build a website. WordPress is user-friendly, versatile, and flexible. If you aren’t currently running a WordPress website, let’s talk. But there is one caveat to our WordPress affection: if you are running an online shop and need a robust e-commerce platform, there is a better option for you: Shopify.

shopifyShopify Advantages for E-Commerce Businesses

WordPress will always be near and dear to our heart, but we do recommend using Shopify if you are a retailer. Shopify can be a much better solution because it has a better user interface for shopping, and the set up is much more customizable and streamlined than it is with WordPress. If you sell goods or services from a WordPress site, you have to use a third-party vendor like PayPal to process payments. But Shopify offers a turnkey e-commerce solution that is both super fast and super secure.

We have had several clients struggle to get customers to use their site to make purchases because it wasn’t very intuitive. Shopify really makes the sales process easy for the consumer, while also providing an easy-to-use interface on the backend for store owners.

Shopify is also a dream to integrate with marketing (because who cares if you have a great store set up if no one ever shows up to shop?). It’s easy to set up landing pages that coordinate with your AdWords campaign. It also uses the best practices for SEO.

We also love that Shopify can be set up as simply or complexly as you want. Like WordPress, it allows business owners to build their own site relatively easily with the standard templates, but for those needing a more upgraded site, they can hire a web designer or developer to create a completely custom solution. And Shopify has its own app store where you can download free or paid apps to add features to your store.

Shopify Drawbacks

No platform is perfect, of course. One drawback of Shopify is that its blogging platform isn’t as good as WordPress’s. It can also be a bit pricey, depending on the plan you choose and the additional apps you integrate. Overall, though, we don’t think that these drawbacks are enough to prevent you from using Shopify as an e-commerce solution.
