Snapping Photos With Instagram: Good For Your Business?

Now that we have covered many of the various social media sites, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, don’t think we forgot about Instagram. In this blog post we are going to cover the basics of
Instagram for those who are not familiar with the site and then we will share our thoughts on how (and if) Instagram can help your business.

First, let’s talk about Instagram. In a nutshell, Instagram is all about photos. According to our friends at Instagram, “Instagram is a fun and quirky way to share your life with friends through a series of pictures.” Users can upload photos to the site and then share them across their Facebook, Twitter and Flickr accounts. (You can also just share your photos with others on Instagram.) The added bonus is that Instagram offers photo filters to add a unique look or enhance the quality of the image. One thing that we do love is that you can digitally write on your photos before uploading them.

For people who use photos and social media to promote their business, Instagram could be a great fit. All photos are organized and regular updates with new photos would be easy.
So, is this something that you should be using for your business? Well, we have mixed feelings about that. If posting photos for your business is appropriate and creates engagement with your customers on social
media sites (such as Facebook) it might be worth looking into. Additionally, if you know that your customers are using Instagram (or maybe your competition is using the site), you may want to do a little research to determine if it is worth your time.

However, if you like to post updates that don’t necessarily have photos it might be easier to just manage your regular social media accounts. In our opinion it comes down to how photography can help promote your business. Similar to our thoughts on Pinterest, if you are in the retail space or maybe you are an artist, look into Instagram. If not, continue to use photography (because it does really help your social media efforts) when it makes sense for your business but don’t create a bunch of busy work for yourself.

Interesting tidbit about Instagram: Facebook owns it.
